Started by Fred Webber in 1926, F. Webber & Sons was one of the region’s first transport companies to fully embrace the growing demand for public transport. School and passenger transport, works outings and regional tourism – all have formed an important and colourful part of WebberBus’s history.
1926 – Fred Webber started his business at the local blacksmith’s cottage at Wheddon Cross, a property he bought from the Bovery estate. He undertook vehicle repairs and made ploughshares and other agricultural equipment.
1940s – business expanded to undertake agricultural haulage and contract hire of threshing machines and other important agricultural machinery
1947 – the Company was the first local company to be part of the new, post-war school transport system, taking children of all ages from local villages and towns to junior and secondary schools throughout the region.
1950s– the Company had its own garage undertaking MOT testing and servicing.
1998 – W E Stevens & Sons of Withycombe
1999 – took over Exmoor Travel
2004 – took over Bryant Coaches to add to offering of days out and private hire |
